Alima Nurpeissova, (Year 9) has won the district round of the Rotary Young Chef Competition held in Ipswich on Saturday 25th February. Alima qualified to compete in this competition by winning the preliminary Uttlesford district round which involved other local secondary schools.

Competing against students from all over the Eastern region, Alima impressed the judges with three dishes from her native Kazakhstan. She began with a starter salad ‘The Capercaillie’s Nest’, a main of Manti dumplings stuffed with pumpkin and minced beef and presented Chak Chak for dessert. She was commended on the flavours, textures and appearance of her food and also on her excellent preparation, organisation and time planning. Alima also took the award for ‘Best Dish’, a fine achievement considering she was cooking alongside contestants who were 17 and 18 years of age.

After her success on Saturday, Alima will return to Ipswich to compete in the Regional final of the Rotary Young Chef competition on 11th March. We wish her the best of luck!
