Sport Day – Track Events – 19 June 2013 (137 photos)
On Wednesday 19th June the weather was kind and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of track races in warm sunshine. During PE lessons leading up to Sports Day, all our pupils were participating in field events, scoring vital points for their houses.
On the day itself all the pupils got involved and ran a selection of distances, 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres and as ever, the event closed with the most exciting part – the team relays. There was a great atmosphere of inter-house rivalry, with all out athletes doing their very best for their house points, cheered on by staff and families. There were some fine individual performances, but notably Hannah Irwin, Year 10 who beat the 30 year old 1500m record by 5 seconds, as well as the 800m record from 1975 with a time of 2:27:06 as well as the 100m longstanding record with a time of 12:94. This is an outstanding achievement by any athlete and she should be commended on her success.
Tuke were the winners with 1668 points, followed in 2nd place by Lister with 1352 points, and in third place was Mennell with 1242 points.
Thank you to all the parents and family members who came along to share the event with us and to the PTA for their excellent refreshments. A big thank you to Nick Batcheler, Jenny Allwood, Ray Mordini and Shelley Dowsett for organising the event so well, especially the sunshine!
